ContactFor almost a decade I have explored Havana's culinary scene as a founder of Alamesa - Cuba's leading restaurant search and discovery service - I have witnessed its evolution and learn its secrets. All I know about how this business roll in Cuba, the techniques, the tricks, the places, and the people, I learned it by doing, in the most entrepreneurial way possible. I'd love to share with you my experiences and findings while interacting with restaurants and bars in Cuba. I also co-created Ruta de Tapas Habana (Havana's Tapas Route), the first and biggest tapas and drinks competition in Cuba. Its goal is to highlight the burgeoning restaurant scene of the city in all its creativity and presents it to locals. I'll introduce you to it.
Let´s get away from the beaten roads, no clichés, no tourists traps at sight. I'll take you to places where I go get my lunch. We'll go where students, workers and other average Cubans make a stop from their daily activities to grab a bite to eat. We'll discover little places offering some of the most common snacks, dishes, and beverages of my countryfolk's every day's meals. Strong short coffees with a dash of cinnamon, creamy tropical fruits milkshakes, yucca root with lime and garlic, salty and spicy shredded pork sandwiches. We'll sample and share some of them and through it, we'll get a taste of real Cuba. Along our journey, I'll give you tips to navigate the city like a local and to find both fine dinings and street delicacies.
Ronda, between Jovellar and San Rafael. Vedado. We’ll meet outside SEDER, the University Stadium. If you’re running late and miss us there, join us for coffee in a little cafe located around the corner in Jovellar and J street. Just across the street from the car entrance of the university. That is where our experience truly begins.
Ronda entre Jovellar y Mazón, Vedado, Plaza de la Revolución
We will visit nearby streets where a multitude of fast food businesses frequented by students and local workers, are located.
Calle 23, esq. F, Vedado, Plaza de la Revolución
You should bring comfortable clothes and shoes, sun blocker, your camera and something to take notes in.
Ariel is the most decent, fun and wise person! He is a devoted gourmand and a massively brilliant connecting rod of the Cuban cuisine community. He is the food genius of Alamesa and a great guy. You just can’t go wrong with him.
Gracias a la amabilidad de Ariel, la experiencia te hace quedar no solo con gran conocimiento de la comida cubana, sino también con un profundo entendimiento de la idiosincracia de los cubanos. La selección de lugares es muy buena !!
Ariel’s tour is not to be missed! He is extremely knowledgeable, funny, articulate and informative. The food was delicious and he went above and beyond to make sure we were happy and well catered to. He also gave us great recommendations outside of the tour. Highly recommended this experience.
